The traditional estrella (star) pinata is used in religious ceremonies in Mexico.  These types of pinata’s are primarily used during Posadas, which take place 9 days before December 24th.  The 7 points of the star represent the star of Bethlehem that led to the Christ’s Nativity.  This particular pinata has been hanging up in a public area near the beach in Sayulita since before Christmas.
